Many. Options.EDTThe Eagles’ roster has seen quite a bit of movement since the end of the 2018 season, but a lot of critical players are returning either on new contracts or existing long-term deals. There’s also a lot of really exciting new blood joining the Philadelphia locker room.That being said, this is one of the more challenging questions to ponder in my opinion, because there are A LOT of good candidates for favorite player. Last year, I think I would have had an easy time choosing Chris Long for this honor, simply because he has an amazingly fun personality, was a beast on the field, and do so much exemplary work in the community. But, since he retired, I’ve got to look elsewhere.I’m going to be one of those difficult people who change their own rules, and actually offer up additional favorites — like, when you ask someone their favorite movie and they break it up in categories.On offense, my favorite player is receiver Alshon Jeffery. I love that he’s willing to leave it all on the field when it matters most — hello, playing through a torn labrum — and is also a guy who loves supporting all the other Philly sports teams.On defense, I’d have to go with Malcolm Jenkins. Similar to Chris Long, he’s such a leader on and off the field, and he’s a guy who embraces helping the younger players on the roster and developing them into excellent defenders. I’m also going to add that Cameron Johnston is my favorite Special Teamer, thanks to his ability to boot the ball 80-plus yards, make spectacular tackles on returners, and his Australian accent.(And, sure, two of my choices are Buckeyes... don’t @ me.) His blend of play strength, athleticism, and receiving ability combine to form the most “complete” back in the class. The question is, if his film is so good, why did he accrue less than 300 touches at Alabama? To be honest, I have no clue. On one hand, it’s impressive that a 3-star recruit cracked the rotation at all considering Alabama’s stable of 5-star studs. On the other, shouldn’t it have been apparent that he was the guy this year? Damien Harris’ surprise return hurt his chances, but the major question is one I’m not qualified to answer. Putting the volume question aside, Jacobs has everything you want in a feature back except prolonged, proven results. He’s a playmaker in a sea of roleplayers and likely is the top workhorse selected. The best part? Doug Pederson would bring in a new DC, not let Schwartz hand pick his replacement.The Question Of Avonte Maddox And Where He Fits Best - PE.comOUTSIDE CORNERBACK: This is a very difficult group to project. The Eagles began the season with Ronald Darby and Jalen Mills starting on the outside at cornerback. Both of those players ended the year on Injured Reserve and Rasul Douglas and Maddox finished the season as the starters. Both of those young players made progress. Darby, rehabbing from a knee injury, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in March. Mills is recovering from a foot injury that was serious enough to keep him sidelined for half the season. Second-year man Sidney Jones, who opened the season as the starting cornerback inside, battled a significant hamstring injury for the second half of the season. He needs to take a big next step in the offseason. There are some developmental players and young veterans, like Josh Hawkins and Chandon Sullivan, whom the Eagles have to consider in the equation as well.2018 NFL trade grades: The 30 most impactful of the past 365 days - ESPNHow much is one catch worth? Tate seemed to become a burden on the Eagles’ offense, which was already overfilled with options in the slot, and the former Seahawks and Lions standout racked up just 25.3 receiving yards per game with a lone touchdown during his eight games in Philly. After being marginalized, though, Tate came through with a big 28-yard catch over the middle of the field against the Bears in the wild-card game before bringing in a fourth-down throw from two yards out for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 16-15 lead with 1:01 to go. Tate finished his season with 18 yards against the Saints in the divisional round, and with the Eagles in rough salary-cap straits, he has likely played his last game in a Philly uniform.
